Within the framework of World Food Day, Panama achieved the Guinness World Record for the largest patacon (fried green plantain) in the world, weighing 111.40 kilograms. The indigenous Ipetí Emberá community cooked the giant patacon, under the guidance of the social responsibility company Impacta and its team.
An Unprecedented Record
The Central American country is the first to reach the mark of this classification. This Panamanian dish reached 111.40 kilograms after the official weigh-in, and measured 3.4 meters in diameter.
Joy and Flavor
The Ipetí community and capital residents who traveled to see the feat celebrated the record with traditional Emberá music and dancing, and eating patacon. They accompanied the patacon with a plantain-based sauce, inspired by community ingredients, which was created especially for this event by chef Alonso García, winner of Top Chef 2018 and others.
