In the previous installment, we discussed the first precautions you should take with your furniture when storing it in a storage facility in Panama. Whether they are yours or for sale, you will want them to be in the best possible condition.
Dismantle Furniture
Before moving furniture, disassemble all bulky items you can. This allows for easy transport and makes storage and organization more convenient in the unit, leaving you more space for air circulation and storing more items. Separate the legs of sofas, chairs, and tables; remove drawers from dressers and wardrobes; and separate the headboards, mattresses, and footboards of beds.
Pro Tip for Screws
Remember, each item must have a corresponding bag of nuts, bolts, and screws attached, so you don’t end up losing any of them.
Wrap Your Furniture and Fragile Items
After cleaning and disassembling the furniture, it’s time to wrap it properly. Do not place any uncovered furniture in storage. Loose blankets, old sheets, and soft cloth covers are the best for wrapping all types of furniture, as they help protect them from dust and moisture. Glass tables, mirrors, metal furniture, and other fragile items require special care; use packing paper as a first layer and then cover with bubble wrap.
Moving to Storage
Once you have finished preparing and packing the furniture, it is time to move it to your unit. Prepare the space by cleaning it and raising the floor with pallets or concrete blocks to promote better air circulation. Do not cram too many items together; stack correctly, with larger and heavier items at the bottom and smaller ones on top. Leave aisles so you can move freely.
