Storing a mirror requires more care than simply throwing it in a box. After gathering the tools and preparing the glass with X-shaped tape, there are additional critical steps to ensure your mirror stays intact in your storage unit.
Step 4: Prepare the Box Properly
Line the bottom and side edges of your box with packing paper without compacting it too much, to maintain its cushioning effect. Carefully slide the mirror in (only one mirror per box) and fill the empty spaces to prevent any internal movement. Finally, seal the box and clearly mark it as “FRAGILE,” indicating which side goes up.
Step 5: Loading the Mirror Into the Truck
When placing the box on the moving truck, place it upright so that it sits firmly. Keep it away from heavy objects that could strike it; near the back or against the side walls is usually a great option to minimize impact during the move.
Step 6: Precautions with Heavy Mirrors
For oversized or very heavy mirrors, cardboard boxes are not enough. You will need to use a wooden crate designed for heavy moving. Consider hiring specialized moving professionals to ensure these fragile pieces make it safely to your storage unit.
